A Beach House ~ Deer ~ A Vacation

This past week has been a busy one.  So many things going on at once! I am planning, planning, planning for my daughter’s upcoming wedding next month.  So much to do, so little time. I have been busy monogramming the vases that will be the centerpieces for the tables at her reception. I have signs to paint, orders to place…and the list goes on and on.

We were able to get away to the beach with my husband’s family over the weekend. It was such a wonderful thing to enjoy the peace and serenity of the ocean, after so many months of worrying and stressing over my husbands bout with cancer. We stayed at this gorgeous house at Ocean Isle Beach, compliments of my sister-in-law.

Over 8,000 square feet of rest and relaxation. I will try to post a tour of this magnificent house soon.  One of its many benefits, include a 5 minute walk to the beach. It is amazing what a walk on the beach can do for your well being.  We took long walks, looked for shells, swam in the pool and just enjoyed being together as a family. No worries…just us, the sun and sand. Like someone once said…“When my toes are sunk into warm sand and the ocean is lapping my feet, when I breathe in the scent of salt and hear the cry of a seagull, I know that I am returned to a place of restoration. I am home.I can heal here.”

There is such healing in God’s creations.  One morning while down on the beach, we were quite startled and amazed to see a family of deer up on the dunes.  My brother-in-law had told us that deer often frequent the beaches of Ocean Isle here in North Carolina. We never expected to see them! These four beautiful creatures were less than 30 feet away from us. They stood watching and acted almost as if they wanted to come even closer.  They bounded away and then came right back! Closer still. They were on the dunes a full five minutes or more…bouncing and playing like puppies. It was such a lovely site to see.  Nature in its truest form.
Can you see the deer on the dunes?

My son was flying his kite, less than 30 feet away on the beach.

Nothing like a windy day at the beach and a kite, to keep a boy happy for hours. =) It was such a bright, sunny crisp day. So refreshing after months and months of cold, gray, damp winter weather.  I have never been so happy to see the spring here in the south.
We saw this huge 15 million dollar home down on the ocean front. You should see the front of it! This is the back side, viewed from the beach. I sure would hate to have to clean that house! You would get a workout, just walking from room to room! I guess, that is why, only the very wealthy live in these places…they can afford to hire a maid. 😉 LOL

We took a stroll down to the Ocean Isle water tower. It was such a gorgeous day. My son loved looking for shells and sharks teeth along the way.

A wonderful time…wonderful memories to keep in our pockets for the years ahead.
This post has gotten longer than I intended…so I will stop here for now. More about our trip to Ocean Isle, my youngest son’s ninth birthday and other events soon.

On a sad note…my Papa (grandpa) passed away this past week.  I hope to write a post about him soon too! I will miss him. He was special to my heart.
Live this day…Hug the ones you love…you never know how much time is left. Do what matters most…and all other things will be added unto you.
Blessings to you all this week.

    Dear Valerie,

I'm so glad that you and your family were able to get away for a bit, and to such a BEAUTIFUL place! The photos looked GORGEOUS. It sounds like everyone has had so much on their plates lately, and I can't agree with you more about the serenity that you found being so importantly restorative.
(And, wow! I never knew that deer visited beaches! How fantastic!)

It's so special that you are creating what sounds like beautiful centerpieces for your daughter's wedding. What a caring and creative Mother you are.

I'm sorry about your Grandfather, I can just imagine how loved he must have been . Grandpa's hold special places in hearts. I look forward to hearing about him later if you compose a post.

Thinking of you lots Valerie! Please take care.

    Your friend Lauren 🙂
