Hodgepodge Wednesday ~ Roses, Wedding Bells & Camping Trips

1. I’ve read several posts and status updates recently describing end of year school field trips. Do you remember taking school field trips as a kid? Where did you go and do you recall a favorite? For any parents responding today, have you ever chaperoned a school field trip, and if so where?
The most favorite field trip I took with school mates, was probably in the sixth grade. We attended a week long camp at a place called Camp Thunderbird on Lake Wylie in North Carolina.
This camp had little cabins.  All of the sixth grade girls bunked in several  cabins and the boys in the others. We had our first co-ed dance there. We swam in the lake, played tennis, lots of group games like freeze tag. We ate at the mess hall as a group, made crafts.  It was fun and one of the first times, I had been away from home for more than a night or two without my folks. I have some treasured pictures of that trip. Maybe I will have to write a post about it later on! =)

2. What’s something you’re tired of seeing online?

K is for Kardashians. Enough said.

3. June is the month for roses. Which of the following expressions would you say could most recently be applied to your life-‘everything’s coming up roses’ ‘there’s no rose without a thorn’ came out smelling like a rose’ or ‘wearing rose-colored glasses’?

Hmmm…probably ‘everything’s coming up roses’. With my daughter getting married this past Friday, and birthdays left and right in the month of June. I would say that June is a very happy month for us. =)

Complete with black and white silk rose petals scattered
                 around.
4. When grilling outdoors do you prefer gas or charcoal?
Who does the grilling at your house? What’s the last thing you ate that was cooked on a grill?

Oh! I love grilling either way. I do love charcoal grilling, and the unique taste that it affords. We have both types of grills. =) My most favorite thing to grill is zucchini squash. We slice it thin, brush with olive oil. Grill it and then sprinkle it with fresh chopped dill, Mozzarella cheese & crushed red pepper. YUM!
My sweet hubby is the grilling king at our house, but our sons are learning. Lucky me. =)

5. Are you afraid of the dark?

Well I don’t like scary movies or things that creep about in the dark. I prefer to live in the ‘light.’ But, I don’t mind the dark, warm, star lit summer evenings. I love a walk in the twilight. Something about twilight, just before the world goes to sleep…it is a very special time. All things seem to slow down a bit. The world takes a breath and lets it out slow. I love that time of day. So yes…and no!

My beautiful daughter at twilight time…
a gorgeous time of day for wedding photos, I might add!

6. Share a favorite song with a number in its title.

A Thousand Years By Christina Perri

This past weekend, my daughter’s bridesmaids sang this song to her and her new husband. They were accompanied by a violinist and a pianist. It was heavenly. A LOVELY, LOVELY song.

7. “Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding about ourselves.”(C.G. Jung) Do you agree? Why or why not?

I think when I see things I don’t like in the lives of others, most specifically negativity, it makes me want to be a more positive person myself.  I am often reminded of the little line that Thumper the rabbit says in the Disney cartoon Bambi. (One of my older kids favorites when they were very small) “If you can’t say something nice, then don’t say anything at all.” Now, if only I can learn to live by this rule.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.
Young love…is there anything more beautiful? I leave you with a few snapshots of my daughter’s wedding this past weekend. They are grainy, I will post some better ones soon! The emotions they show are unmistakable…love…it makes the world go ’round.

                                        Have a Super Day!
I know this is a day late!
                                But better late than never!
